Parent Coaching

Parent coaching is an excellent alternative to consistent ongoing direct therapy. Many families are stuck on waitlists or do not have the time and/or resources to accommodate a full ABA schedule.

Parents Coaching for better Support Families in Utah

At Advanced Behavior Analysis Inc., we recognize the invaluable role that parents play in the success of their child’s ABA therapy journey. That’s why we offer parent coaching as an additional modality of support, covered by insurance and also accessible out of pocket if needed. Parent coaching, also known as parent training, empowers caregivers with the knowledge and tools they need to support their child’s development and behavior at home. In this model, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) works collaboratively with the child and their caregiver to assess concerns, identify areas for support, and provide tailored strategies for promoting positive behavior and lifestyle changes. By considering the whole family dynamic, our BCBA creates a comprehensive plan to establish consistent routines and expectations, fostering a supportive environment for growth and development. Parent coaching sessions are flexible, allowing families to engage as much or as little as desired, with our primary goal being to implement systems that support the entire family and alleviate stress.

What to Expect From Parent Coaching

During a parent coaching session at Advanced Behavior Analysis Inc., parents can expect a supportive and collaborative environment where their unique needs and concerns are addressed. Each session typically lasts one hour and can be conducted either in the comfort of their own home or via telehealth for added convenience. The session begins with the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) interviewing parents to gather information about their family culture, lifestyle, and any specific behavioral health concerns they may have regarding their child. Through open dialogue and active listening, the BCBA seeks to understand the family’s strengths, challenges, and goals.

Based on the information gathered, the BCBA then collaborates with parents to brainstorm effective strategies tailored to their family’s unique circumstances. These strategies may include behavior management techniques, communication strategies, and lifestyle adjustments aimed at promoting positive behavior and fostering a supportive home environment. Throughout the session, parents are encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts and concerns, and actively participate in the development of the plan.

As part of the coaching process, the BCBA will make adjustments to the strategies based on the family’s feedback and evolving needs. This iterative approach ensures that the interventions remain effective and aligned with the family’s goals. By the end of the session, parents can expect to leave with practical tools and strategies that they can implement immediately to support their child’s development and behavior.

My son Collin (4) was paired up with an AMAZING team. Our BCBA is Jillian and our RBT is Camille. Collin calls them his Jillie and Milk. They have truly been amazing. When we started this journey Collin maybe said 10 words functionally. He is now talking in 3 to 4 word sentences. He can identify emotions in others and is learning how to express his wants, needs, and feelings. He is learning how to play with others and so, so much more. They disguise everything as fun games or activities. Even my 2 older daughters want to join in. Collin received a diagnosis of ASD when he was 2yr old. Our Pediatrician really stressed the importance of ABA therapy. To be honest I was very reluctant as I have heard mixed reviews. After calling about 10 different companies to get information about their programs I found ABA. I was looking for someone that would work with me on how many hours a week he would be required to do. Most places I talked with wanted a minimum of 20 hours a week. At 3yrs old that is to much in my opinion. I also wanted in home and clinic sessions. I want to be involved. They have been willing to work with me on all of the above and so much more. Jillian and Camille are phenomenal at what they do. They truly care and love my little boy. I could not ask for a better team. He looks forward to going to the Clinic (Milks House) and them coming to our home. I can honestly say that I whole heartily trust them and feel so lucky that they are in our lives.
